San Francisco Optics on Chestnut, established in 1979, is the city’s most unique optical store.
From its humble beginnings, it has grown to be the most in demand optical boutique for its talent in eyewear
styling and incredible selection.
In 1993, the company made a transition and refocused its mission to emphasize providing its clients with a
fashion forward styling consultation.
A group of experts were put together to formulate a methodology to eyewear styling and this expertise has
been passed down over the years
between SF Optics’ in house stylists and dispensers.
Additionally, SF Optics has a very exclusive, yet large, selection of eyewear which is handpicked by specially
trained and experienced buyers.
Their sharp eye for quality and style has been well recognized, opening opportunities ranging from styling
eyewear on music video sets to
producing their own eyewear fashion shows. And between their styling expertise and incredible selection, it’s
no wonder that SF Optics has
developed such a strong following of diverse clientele from all around the world, including celebrities and
prominent figures in society.
The most valuable compliment that SF Optics receives is the enormous number of clients that come in because
they were amazed by SF Optics’
ability to style and its incredible product after seeing their friend’s new look.
Under the leadership of CEO Alex Feldman, the next big move came in 2006 when SF Optics expanded into the neighboring space. This two-stores-in-one
approach allowed SF Optics to
further develop its unique selection. While maintaining its focus on keeping the most exclusive luxury and
couture eyeglasses and sunglasses
from around the world, such as Robert Marc, Mykita, and Gold-&-Wood, SF Optics was able to build a whole section
to cater to one’s desires for
the most popular designer labels such as Chanel, Tom Ford, and Prada.
However, the most unique thing about SF Optics is that even with all of its growth and demand, it still upholds
to the highest standard of
customer service. It is a neighborhood favorite, not only to people but to all the neighborhood dogs.
On a regular basis, you will see a dog
dragging its owner towards SF Optics’ front door to collect its daily doggy treat. You can also be sure of a
wonderful experience when setting
foot into SF Optics with its friendly smiles and vibrant positive energy. Enjoy a cup of freshly ground espresso
while listening to the
infamous music always playing, including the occasional live performances by talented musicians on the
Schimmel Grand Piano, and checking out
the limited edition Ducati on display, an expression of the employees love for motorcycles.
And finally, SF Optics orders it lenses directly from the highest quality manufacturers such as Essilor
(Varilux), Shamir, and Zeiss, and uses the best coatings such as those by Crizal. This, in combination
with it having a very sophisticated on-site lab, assures the best final product.
The SF Optics name not only guarantees outstanding service and the most in demand styling consultation, but it
also represents the most
exclusive and selective, yet largest, collection of eyewear, from which there is always something for everyone.
SF Optics is a celebrity-like makeover experience. Let’s get styled…

"SF Optics has an amazingly beautiful and diverse selection of frames.
Alex Feldman, the manager, and the rest of his team are friendly and
knowledgeable about their products.
I came in to look at sunglasses, and - I kid you not - the first pair
that Alex handed me (by Robert Marc) were absolutely perfect. Even my mom,
a retired optometrist (she practiced for 30 years) thought they were a great
fit and didn't even try to adjust them (which she ALWAYS does).
I will definitely return to San Francisco Optics for future eye wear purchases - their
variety and selection is some of the best I've seen."

"...I was able to find some great frames for the prescription that I was sure I would need.
They really put a lot of effort into making sure that you get the glasses that are right for you.
They don't rush you to make a selection and push you out of their store. They want to make sure
that you are satisfied with not only your purchase but your experience in the store as well.
With the frames and lenses purchsed I had my eyes checked and I indeed was in need of
prescription lenses. After my exam I faxed over the prescription and they went to work
finishing things up for me. Apparently my prescription required a bit more work and a
difference in material than what I had originally purchased but rather than spring the
difference on me without notice they picked it up.
You just don't get that kind of customer service anymore!"

"I love this place.
They have a great selection of frames, and some unique styles all under one roof
(Alain Mikli, Paul Smith, Oliver Peoples, Gold and Wood). I have bought multiple
glasses from them, and they were very flexible in helping my Father get some on a recent
visit out here from England.
Also, they have a knack of picking a perfect frame for your face. It is a little strange
when you first go in and they start advising you, and I can see why some people might get
offended, but the frames they selected for me were perfect. It isnt like they FORCE you
into buying one pair in particular, but they do pick styles they think will suit your face,
and they are good at it. The one pair they selected for me (Alain Mikli) I have loved for
over a year. The one time I was ADAMANT on what frame I wanted, regardless of what they
advised..... I ended up returning the frame because I went off them after a month or so.
So my advice, dont be too upset that someone else is advising you on how they think you can
look good, they are really trying to help you after all! So just go with it. At the end of
the day, you can totally ignore their advice and still buy the frames you really want."
