Persol, an Italian Eyewear company founded in 1917 to make advanced lenses for Italian fighter pilots, has come a long way in its almost century long history. From the aviation experts of the First World War to the celebrities of yesterday and today, Persol has never lacked in aficionados. Lets take a look at some of Persol’s biggest fans.

George Clooney looks great in his Persol 2243-s, but there’s no suprise there.

Want his look? We can provide the sunglasses, but you have to bring the swagger.

His Ocean’s 12 costar, the timeless Julia Roberts, also loves Persols, helping to break the “boys only” image.

Julia and an unusual, closed-mouth smile.

New Hollywood loves Persol too. Here’s Justin Timberlake bringing sexy back in his favorite pair.

Justin, I love you. Let's get married and live in a wonderland of fedoras and sunglasses.

Lindsay Lohan, America’s favorite hot mess, covers her hangover grimace in this popular Persol frame.

It's ok, Lindsay. Coffee, orange juice, and a few cigarettes will set you right.

Orlando Bloom wears the same frame, but in a lighter color. And with less hopelessness on his face.

The one frame to rule them all...

Even James Bond wears Persols.

Ok, it's Daniel Craig, but whatever

Lastly, the most iconic Persol wearer, and my persomal favorite, Steve McQueen.

Look at him. You can almost smell the manliness.

No matter what your look or style, Persol has a frame for you. Come find it at our Trunk Show this Saturday, October 22, 2011.

Chanel.  Just the one word is enough to bring to mind images of timeless beauty, classic style, and groundbreaking fashion.  Chanel means many things to many people, but to us, it means flawless style.

Even pushed back on Anne Hathaway’s head, her Chanel 5012′s make a statement.

Look how pretty!

Britney saves a bad hair day with an awesome shield frame.

Well, tries to save it. But the glasses look great!

Dita Von Teese has such a wonderful vintage style that Chanel works perfectly to compliment. Here she is in her 4180s.

Can you believe that she was married to Marilyn Manson?

The former Mrs. Woods also has a perfect Chanel frame for her style, sporty but elegant.

Hope she used Tiger's card...

Jennifer Love Hewitt uses her Chanel model 5138 to channel Holly Golightly.

I think we've all channeled Holly Golightly. If you haven't, you should.

Jenny McCarthy, one of our staff favorites, also loves Chanel. In this picture, she’s being styled here at SF Optics by our very own Alex Feldman.

She is just to cool for words. Seriously. I have no words.

Now for our suprise guest, Lady GaGa. She may not be the most obvious Chanel wearer, but she coaxes a new vibe from a classic frame.

Who would have thought to wear Chanels with beer can hair rollers? Genius.

Coco Chanel really knew what she was doing all those years ago, and her legacy has been continued by the wonderful designers that do her work today. For any style, classic and understated, or edgy and fierce, Chanel has a perfect frame. Come see the entire collection, including all the new Fall 2011 styles, at our Private Fitting this Saturday, October 22, 2011.

This week we are celebrating Chrome Hearts eyewear and the people who love them.  This brand, founded in 1988 by Richard and Laurie Stark, originated making motorcyle gear, but as their fanbase widened, so did their collections.  This bold and trendy brand is a favorite of both the rich and famous, and the famously rich.

Let’s start with Katie Holmes. Half of one of America’s favorite Hollywood power couples, Katie looks every bit the part in these rock star shield sunglasses.

Heidi Klum, our favorite German import, bundles up against the cold and protects her eyes with a sporty Aviator style frame. Take a style tip from the queen of the runway and don’t let a little snow rob your style!

Justin Chambers, one of the resident heart-throbs of Grey’s Anatomy, was caught dressing down in his Chrome Hearts “Erected.” Snow or Sun, keep those eyes covered!

Dr. 90210 (Robert Ray), the king of Hollywood cosmetic surgery, has been seen wearing his “Beast 3″ while working his rounds. Chrome Hearts go well with his stethoscope, don’t they?

Even the Country world is getting in on the Chrome Hearts trend. LeAnn Rimes has been crooning country toons since her early teenage years, but she’s proven she has more edge than we thought. Seen here in the “Double Tip.”

In case you need a second opinion, we have yet another doctor (albeit fictional) in our list. Omar Epps, one of the stars of House, is often seen in his Chrome Hearts glasses.

In addition to two fictional doctors and a real plastic surgeon, lets round out the list with a fictional plastic surgeon. Nip/Tuck’s Julian McMahon has been spotted in some great Chrome Hearts sunglasses.

Chrome Hearts most loyal Hollywood devotee? Paris Hilton. Here she is in her favorite, the “Queenie”

l.a. Eyeworks, the brainchild of two women who couldn’t find the funky eyeglasses they craved, has attracted it’s share of celebrities over the years. From the first famous ad in Andy Warhol’s Interview, to the famous devotees of today, this independent eyewear company has framed some pretty famous faces.

Andy Warhol was indispensible in the creation of the image of this company, and it’s no wonder. l.a. Eyeworks is perfect for the Factory.

Elvis Costello was spotted in his Blue Abbey frame, which is a fairly traditional shape, taken to the next level with that great, funky color.

Ben Stiller’s Mason is a perfect fit for him, and brings an extra something special.

Elton John is one of the biggest fans of l.a. Eyeworks and has several pairs in his collection. He even wore a pair to his wedding. Here he is in his O’Connell frame.

Check out the pattern on these bold beauties worn by Madonna.

A pattern like that will get you noticed.

Even Justin Beiber has the fever for his l.a. Eyeworks frames. Here he is wearing Bent in a commercial for the MTV VMAs.

The evidence is clear. If you want to be framed by eyewear as unique as you are, be sure to check out the l.a. Eyeworks Trunk Show on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at SF Optics featuring the most recent Fall ’11 collection!

Starck Eyes Eyewear Trunk Show

Starck Eyes

Tomorrow, Saturday, July 30th, we will be having a trunk show featuring the entire Starck Eyes eyewear collection.

Come in for $100 off your purchase plus free U/V and scratch coating on your lenses!

The British design guru, Phillipe Starck, used his design creativity and technical expertise to create a new concept in optics. Because sight is the most essential of our senses, Starck invented the eyes of the future. The Starck Eyes collection is practical and pleasurable in a “Biovision” – a concept that takes its inspiration from human beings and is dedicated to their well-being. Phillipe Starck believes that everyday objects have a soul of their own, which is why he continually strives to forge new relationships between man and matter. The object surrenders its material substance to return to its original purpose: human fulfillment. He has expressed this contemporary vision of “Biodesign” in a wide array of industrial and architectural objects, including home furnishings, motorcycles and now eyeglasses.

“I think the line of eyeglasses frames I developed is an absolutely perfect example of the non-product of the future: a combination of advanced technology and freedom shaped by a philosophy that less is more.” -Phillipe Starck.

Starck created a replacement for the conventional screw-hinge with a biomechanical hinge which provides multi-directional freedom of movement called “Biolink” – a human micro-clavicle. It is modeled after the natural intelligence of the human shoulder, which shares the same multi-directional freedom of movement. The absence of screws within the hinge assures constant pressure of the temples, providing better comfort and durability. Phillipe Starck uses material of the future to create his eyewear styles: Aluminum, Titanium, Acetate – “All of the factors that allow an object to be structurally and stylistically modern.”

Impressive Trunk Shows by SF Optics featured in Vision Monday

Vision Monday, an optical industry publication, interviewed Alex Feldman about San Francisco Optics’ success with social media and trunk shows. SF Optics has become recognized for it’s impressive selection of eyewear brands and frequent trunk shows in order to bring it’s clients all of the newest styles and designs first.

Social Media Helps San Francisco Optics Promote Busy Trunk Show Schedule

November 17, 2010 2:03 PM

Alex Feldman

SAN FRANCISCO—Among the retailers VM spoke to, San Francisco Optics had the busiest trunk show schedule by far. “Anything that we choose to carry in the store is a brand that we want to do the trunk show with,” said Alex Feldman, CEO and owner. “If it’s in the store, we love and believe in it and would like to feature it in an event.”

His optical boutique, located in the Marina District since 1979, averages one trunk show a week in the spring and fall. According to Feldman, San Francisco Optics is booked 30 percent to 50 percent of weekends throughout the year. Since the shop started promoting trunk shows 15 years ago, they found that weekends work better. “We plan for Saturday because people are free then and we are in a high traffic area. Noon to 5:00 p.m. is ideal for getting the window shoppers in,” Feldman said.

By holding the shows on the weekend, Feldman said he is also able to recognize the sales increase in frames from a featured brand the following week. “If the trunk show is on a Saturday, we’ll sell more and the majority of the stuff sold will be of that particular

At a trunk show for Robert Marc, San Francisco Optics staff
was on hand to help visitors with questions regarding the
frames collection.

line. He attributes the uptick in sales to the boutique’s opticians. “Usually the psychological effect it has on our opticians is to make them excited about that line so they’ll automatically go to those brands first when they’re styling our customers.”

Adding that the impact also comes from the brand or supplier company itself, Feldman said, “We want the sales reps to get involved and be our key information holder for anything we haven’t learned yet. The more they help, the more successful we’ll be.” Past events have included Robert Marc, SALT., Oliver Peoples, Barton Perreira and a recent German-themed cocktail party with designers from Mykita.

To help market the frequent events, San Francisco Optics relies heavily on both new media and traditional advertising. “We’ve been doing social media marketing for about two or three years and the website for much longer. Since Twitter and Facebook came out, we’ve used them a lot too,” Feldman said. An e-mail list and address database for blasts and postcard mailers also help the company keep in touch with existing customers.

Because each trunk show is different, varying with the brand and season, Feldman explained the need for a variety of promotion strategies: “Results vary. When we do a trunk show for a name that is more popular, then social media gets better results because it catches the general attention of the public. “But if it’s more of a private line that eyewear connoisseurs know about, it’s not as effective.” For this reason, Feldman continues to take out ads in the community paper. This season, he paid for five—one for each show San Francisco Optics would be hosting.

“We’re very good at developing a taste for our clients with particular lines,” Feldman said of the busy schedule. “We have people who come to every Robert Marc show because they love that line. It’s an event that our clientele look forward to.”
